Javelina Gallery
Javelina, also known as Peccaries, are often confused with
wild pigs. Javelina are omnivores but prefer roots, grass,
seeds, fruits, and leftover pumpkins from Halloween decorations.
They are urban suvivors, and the Collared Peccary (Pecari Tajacu)
exists in large numbers in Phoenix and Tucson areas. They are
social animals that live in herds and can be a nuissance but live
among us like raccoons do in other climates.
There are a couple of restaurants in Tucson that are named for
Javelinas: Javalinas (a local coffee shop chain) and Javelina
Cantina restaurant and lounge.
