Prairie Dog Gallery
Prairie Dogs, Genus Cynomys, are making a comeback in Arizona after being hunted and poisoned to near extinction.
They dig elaborate burroughs and tunnels and live in a highly complex social structure.
When out one will always be sitting upright, on the lookout for predators.
They have a sophisticated vocabulary of high pitched barks that can alert the rest of their "town".
These two pictures were taken in the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum habitat for Prairie Dogs.
