Desert Virga Rain
Virga is an observable streak of precipitation that falls from a cloud but evaporates
before reaching the ground. Virga removes heat from the air and can cause pockets of
cold air to descend rapidly creating a dry microburst. Virga can produce dramatic and
beautiful scenes. We typically get virga in Tucson during the summer months and usually
in the mountain surrounding Tucson. Virga reminds us that the Monsoons are soon to arive.
